Author Bridget Davis used the creativity of the pen instead of the poison of a heroin needle to write her way out of a life of growing up in a twenty-one story Harlem tenement apartment building. Bridget was surrounded by the trappings of drugs, poverty and hopelessness.

But the flow of ink from her pen caused Bridget to sail into the literary world of becoming a best-selling author of three successful novels. “I escaped the statistics of failure. I became free through education and a strong family foundation of morality and self respect,” says this wife and mother of 2, as she offers insight into her success. The fourth child of five, at an early age Bridget saw the failure and success of her siblings and the breakup of her parent’s marriage, caused her to see life from a different view. But it was the untimely death of her mother at the early age 47 (from cancer), that really caused Bridget to re-focus her life.

She channeled her grief and sorrow into a full throttle ascent by becoming even more determined for success. Today, Bridget’s present life is a far cry from her childhood existence.

She’s now living in the scenic beauty of the Pocono Mountains resort area of Pennsylvania. “It’s such a idyllic area for writing.” says Bridget from her office plus, she also maintains a second residence back in her hometown of Harlem. Her latest novel, HENRY’S HEART, has been made into a movie, starring young actor Dorian Davis. The film will be released nationally next year.

The book chronicles the compelling journey of the Hart family from slavery to freedom and the curse that haunted the male members of the family for generations. “Some of the details of ‘Henry’s Heart’ are based on fact combined with my imagination. I’ll just tease the readers with this much. The story starts with 2 slaves from Senegal who are forced into slavery. They set sail to America on a ship named Jesus, taken to the Hart plantation and this is where the real story begins.” Originally a film script, Henry’s Heart, the novel, immediately caught the attention of several top independent film producers within a few short months of its release.

But Bridget is never one to sit on her laurels. “As we were filming Henry’s Heart I noticed there were few outlets for the independent film maker to showcase their work in this region, Why should someone’s film sit on the shelf just because the major studios won’t give it a chance?”

So Bridget, her husband, her children and a good publicist friend, organized The Pocono Mountains Film Festival. As a result of months of hard work, now the major film studios are calling on Bridget. The debut festival featured 60 films from ambitious independent producers throughout North America. Miss USA, Billy Dee Williams, Jack Palance, were just a few notable participating celebrities.

The highlight of the festival is the honorary dinner, which includes selecting a celebrity to be featured in the Pocono Walk Of Fame. The success of the next film fest is buzzing. Bridget has already received calls from top heavy studios such as Lions Gate and Miramax, to participate in the next festival which will be July 7-1 0th 2004, amidst the splendor and beauty of Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains region. Meanwhile, in addition to her writing and the festival, Bridget will soon be launching “The Girl Next Door,” a new syndicated tv talk show featuring celebrity interviews, today’s issues and a cooking tips from the best of chefs.

And by the end of next summer the busy author will be releasing her fourth novel, “Ghetto Moon,” which is a tome about life under the moon in the ghetto. “It’s about the obstacles, the good & bad that you have to overcome in order to become successful,” adds Ms. Davis.

The Pocono Film Festival invites any and all independent film makers to submit their films, shorts or documentaries for showing at next year’s festival. Deadline is June 12, 2004. See www.poconomountainsfilmfesival.com
